The difference between a washer and a gasket

Gasket:

The biggest difference between the two is that the washer is thin and small, while the gasket is large and heavy.


The role of the two is not the same: 

Spring washers can prevent the screw cap due to vibration and other reasons caused by loosening, falling off. 

Gasket can increase the contact area to increase the friction. 

Washer ------ generally refers to the bolt (screws, studs, plugs) with the use of the central hole round, square or other shaped pad.
Gasket ------ general refers to the thickness of a variety of not too large pad, such as from the sealing gasket, adjusting gasket, etc.
